WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for energetic, passionate individuals who are interested in making an impact in the lives of others. Our counselors come to us from many different avenues of interest in neurodiversity. They are teachers, behavior technicians, college students, camp professionals, social workers, occupational therapists, and child development professionals, to name a few. For all staff regardless of experience, we provide intensive staff training to ensure our counselors can deliver safe and engaging programming for campers of varying needs. The skills we teach at camp are incredibly useful in all careers involving youth development, but we firmly believe that the overall experiences staff have at Camp SkyWild will benefit you no matter your career path.

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO BE A COUNSELOR?

The camp experience from a counselor’s perspective is one full of learning and exposure: about yourself and your campers as well as new perspectives that may impact the way you think about your life and your world outside of camp. Many of our volunteers report that camp has forever changed their lives.

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll

  • be responsible for supervision and safety of your campers (including overnight) Monday through Saturday

  • sleep in cabins (bunk bed style sleeping arrangements) with your cabin of staff and counselors

  • have support from experienced counselors in Cabin Leader roles

  • have the opportunity to learn from our behavior team, one Occupational Therapist (OT) and 2 Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

  • have 3 meals (we accommodate all dietary restrictions)

  • participate in activities with your campers (swim in the lake, climb the ropes course, shoot archery, etc)

  • positively impact the lives of many young people

BEHAVIOR INTERNSHIP

Behavior Interns are a valuable role in our summer program. These individuals will be hired to specifically work with campers needing extra support. You will have a special training with our behavior team, and be assigned to one of our 10 cabins. You will work closely with the behavior team to develop and adapt sensory interventions, communication systems, behavior plans, and program adaptations for campers with identified needs for them. This is valuable position for individuals planning to enter career fields serving neurodiverse populations. There is a section on our standard camp application where you can indicate your interest in this position.

Are you accruing hours to sit for the BCBA or BCaBA exam? We’ve got you covered! Behavior interns receive FREE supervision from our on-site BCBA and have opportunities to accrue both unrestricted and restricted hours while expanding their knowledge of non-traditional environments.
